What I Wish for this coming Merdeka!

I have just finished reading this IHT interview with Lee Kuan Yew (LKY). It makes a very interesting read. No matter what you say about LKY, he did a good job. While reading the article, I have come to realise one thing. We Malaysia, have squandered our history. We had the opportunity to be become so much more.

Unfortunately, instead of growing, our country seems to be regressing. I remember reading this article in TheStar a few days ago. I would've thought that things like this were resolved more than 50 years ago. But it seems that it is not. I don't understand why we're all still trying to redefine our country when it had been clearly spelt out that we are a secular state with Islam as it's official religion more than 50 years ago. I don't understand why certain parties are interested in un-resolving this and making it into an issue once again.

Instead of constantly re-visiting old issues, we should all be looking forward and moving on. I'm already tired of listening to the FUD of 13 May 1969. This issue has been resolved almost 40 years ago. I don't see why it needs to be constantly dredged up every once in a while. Let us all just come clean on this issue and let all the facts be known. Either have it all out in the open, where everyone can then work on their issues (like proper adults), or just let dead dogs lie and not pull it up whenever it is politically convenient.

For goodness sakes, we're already old enough to be grand parents but we're still behaving like petty children. The old politics need to go. Like LKY says, we need to cast aside all our differences and focus on moving forward. Otherwise, we would not survive for long. We have already squandered our last 50 years, let's not squander the next 50.
