Love is also...
This is my first Valentine's day alone in a long time. And the worst bit of it is that I'm spending my Valentine's day, alone in bed. [okay, that could've been interpreted in a million different wrong ways. i'm ill okay!] As part of my continuing Valentine's day blog, I thought that I'd do a sequel to my previous "Love is..." blog.
A very wise old woman once told me that, love is about give-n-take. When two different individuals come together, there are bound to be conflicts. It is how these conflicts are managed that will determine the course of a relationship. Hence, compromise is necessary and love is a series of compromises. This may sound like a bad thing, but it's not. After a while, things will no longer seem like compromises as assimilation begins to happen.
Love is also about trust. To give yourself up totally to another person and trusting the person enough to, essentially ,expose yourself to the worse possible physical and emotional harm. Those who have been in love will understand this. Those who have been out of love, will also understand this. Everyone has a wall, and it takes a special someone to bring down the wall. Sometimes it take a lot of patience and time to do it too.
And reciprocally, love is about taking responsibility. When someone opens up to you and puts their heart in your hands, it has to be treated with great care and responsibility. Treat it the way you would treat the finest china in the world. It would be a terrible tragedy if the heart is left to fall and break. Then, it will never be quite whole again and fine lines will be visible, even if it is skillfully put together again.
And finally, love is a lot of hard work. It is not something that is permanent or stable. Love constantly fluctuates and changes. It is something that requires a lot of hard work to get right, if 'right' is even the correct word to use. Sometimes, things will seem like it's impossible to get right. It takes a lot of dedication and faith, to be able to see things through.
