Nikon D40 - To buy or not to buy ...

i've reached the point in my photography to say that, i need a better camera!! hehe... the reason that i'm still awake at this hour?? the nikon D40!!! haha... i'm seriously thinking about getting a DSLR... and the D40 is nikon's entry level DSLR... i guess that this is in response to the canon 400D...

the reviews so far, on this camera is quite good... and i think it's just the right grade for me... i don't need anything too high end, as i'm not a pro photographer (like say, the D80 or D200)... and it's likely a better camera than my current FZ20 (which is a good camera)...

so, the question is, can i afford the D40?? well... if i sell off my FZ20 to help subsidise it, i think i can... the D40 kit costs under GBP 400 brand new... and my FZ20 is fetching GBP230 (used) and GBP300 (new) on amazon... so, if i can sell it off for say, around GBP200, that would be great!!

it's so cheap, simply because, nikon has decided to use slightly stripped down, and tested technology from it's other camera lines... so, it's essentially a low cost entry level... it's meant for hobbyists like me... which is good, since i'm not really that expert with photography yet... if i get any better, i guess that i could still upgrade the camera body in the future...

however, i should wait for a bit, to see how the picture quality is like... and also, to read real user reviews about this camera... if it's as good as the initial reviews make it to be, then it should be a good investment for a while... if it doesn't turn out fine, then, i might get the canon 400D instead...
