Research Progress
My research is not progressing as well as it should be... I've been falling behind schedule... I have no doubt that I can still make up for lost time though... The design is underway... Although I had previously completed about 75% of the design, I'm taking it back to the drawing board again... This is in light of new information that I've just come across a couple of weeks ago... It doesn't require a complete re-design, but many parts of the current design will have to be re-worked...
However, I'm happy with my current research... It's moving on all fronts.. Even my supervisor has become quite supportive... I've just submitted a paper for a conference, last week... And this paper is based on my new research project that got started in July... In 3 months, I'd accomplished as much work as I did in the whole first year of my old project... That's why 75% of the design was finished...
My supervisor has finally green-lighted the purchase of several tools that I would need... I'm happy to have finally convinced him to purchase the tools for me... Without the tools, I'd still be able to complete my research... However, it would just be a sh*tty research, limited to simulation results (which anyone with the right skills, can fake)... So, I'm glad that my supervisor has finally agreed to do that... Our division computer officer has already setup the SUN machine for me and will be installing the new version of the software when it comes (i assume that i'll come after christmas)..
I've also gained the trust of my supervisor... These last few months, I've been working entirely from home.. He doesn't complain about that though... Funnily, we've had some random conversations on MSN (how weird is that!!)... So, I guess it's okay for me to work from home for now... If my paper submission is accepted, I hope to be able to attend the conference in Durham next year... It should be fun to visit Durham... I've been told by some friends that it's a beautiful place...
My next target would be to find a conference in M'sia... Those are harder to come by... That'll allow me to fly home for a short visit... I do miss home and family... and miss my newborn niece + nephew (even though I've never even seen them before!!)...
I'm keeping my fingers crossed on submitting next Michaelmas... If all goes well, I'm on track...
