Oh no!! What about the K100D??

after reading many reviews on the D40, it seems that there's another possible contender... at exactly the same price point, is another DSLR, from pentax - the K100D... it has slightly more features than the D40... like more AF points and better metering algorithms...

the most important being image stabilisation... whereas most DSLR rely on lens based IS, the K100D comes with IS in the body... hence, it'll have IS benefits from using any non-IS capable lens... meaning, that i'll be able to get cheaper lenses... however, their lens selection is also not as wide as nikon/canon...

it has disadvantages of course... from most reviews, the main disadvantages are (1) longer startup time - 1s vs 0.18s (2) slower auto focus (3) slower burst rate... all these are not as important to me as the IS though... since most of my shots would be indoors, under questionable lighting...

another important issue is the cost of lens... nikon and canon lenses are usually more expensive than the pentax ones... hmm... could this simply be because pentax is the underdog?? there are, of course, lenses from other manufacturers as well.. the K100D can use ANY Pentax-KAF compatible lens... the D40 can only use AF-S and AF-I lenses...

anyway, i've still got plenty of time to choose... i will not be making any purchases before christmas anyway... maybe by then, the prices would have changed a bit, to help me determine my selection...

however, i'm quite certain that i'm going to get myself a DSLR soon... it's only a question of which one...
