The end of an era

Well, it's been finally confirmed. And as usual, France 24 breaks the news, which is via AFP - a French news wire. Come tomorrow, the world will lose one of it's former dictators. It's the end of an era. For a very long time, Saddam was the scourge of the middle east and nemesis of world peace.

However, now that he has already been deposed and that someone else has taken his titles, I wonder if the world gains anything by killing him. I'm generally not one who believes in state sanctioned murder, especially when the trial has been as farcical as this one. However, I guess that there isn't any other real world punishment that can fit the nature of his deeds.

Now, what should we do about his successor, the *new* scourge of the middle east and nemesis of world peace? He has officially brought on more death and destruction to the Iraqis and also officially caused the death of more of his countrymen than Al-Qaeda. But, he will probably never get impeached, never go to trial for murder and never face the consequences.

I know that this is not how it's supposed to be used, but as they say, justice is blind, and in this case, probably blinder than most.
