More Linux Notebooks

Another major computer company has announced a line of Linux machines. Epson, which is a major brand in Japan, has announced the immediate availability of the Endeavor line of notebooks and laptops that come pre-installed with TurboLinux.

Slowly, but surely. The tide is changing. Actually, there was quite a comprehensive article yesterday, from notebook reviews that highlighted the reasons why more OEMs are introducing alternative OSes. Many are back-tracking on Vista and still offer XP as an install option. Some are daringly dabbling with Linux as an alternative.

I have to agree with parts of the article. I do think that Microsoft screwed up badly with Vista. It is an OS that is revolutionary in many ideas, but terribly executed. So, it ends up as the upgrade that nobody really wants. It's slower than XP for games, has broken hardware support and is DRM infested.

So, maybe my prediction is coming true afterall. 2007 may just go down as the year that the dominance of Linux began. Won't be my first prediction that ever came true, and it certainly won't be the last either.

Hi there,

am also planning to buy a laptop.
Just a few questions.

1.Is vista really really that bad?
2.What's the DRM infested thingy?

Google-ing it seems to make no sense at all. sounds like a password or so for music files.

Hmm, I think that I should probably do a short blog about the issues, citing more recent examples. I doubt that I would be able to give a comprehensive answer otherwise:

1) Yes, if you want to use Windows, get XP. Better yet, get Linux or a Mac.

2) DRM takes away your legal rights to use the things that you bought with your own money.

Thinking of double OS, XP Linux.

Mac is too ex.

Am considering that one. Sounds like a very good deal.

Yes, that machine does look like a good deal. I'm also looking to get myself a machine with similar specs, at a similar price.

Heh, maybe I should wait till I go home to Malaysia to buy myself a notebook. Might be able to bargain a good deal for myself.
