Siti is going to the Grammy's
Our little songbird is going to the Grammy's and she is going to walk down the red carpet there! That's interesting. I've always been a fan. I feel that she has the most exquisite voice that I've ever heard. However, it's quite unfortunate that she only sells in the Malay speaking world.
It seems that she had won her ticket to attend the Grammy's from Star (broadcast, not print). They then wrote to the Grammy's to ask that she be allowed to walk down the red carpet with all the other international celebrities. The Grammy's gave her the green light.
In a way, this is more of a recognition for her as an international artiste. She is will also be able to rub shoulders with some other international celebrities. I do hope that she brushes up on her English though. The last I'd heard, she doesn't speak 'the English' too well.
As usual, she will be dressed spectacularly. She's gotten Bernard Chandran to make her a new dress. No details are out yet except that it'll be a black-white dress with plenty of Malaysian motives, probably a nice kebaya I guess.
I don't actually see a reason why she cannot be marketed worldwide except for the fact that her record label doesn't wish to do it. The language shouldn't be a barrier, and neither should the music. The problem is probably her insistence on being prim-and-proper. That image would probably be fairly difficult to sell outside of a few countries.
And just for the heck of it, I'll link a youtube video of her "biarlah rahsia" MTV here. When I showed some of my foreign friends this video, they all said that she had a good voice, even though they didn't understand what the song was about at all. I like it. Hope that you do too.

why not? there are plenty of 'prim and proper' artistes out there. it's just that they appeal to a different target group... you don't really see singers like barbara streissand or frank sinatra doing a belly dance :P
however, i do agree with "except for the fact that her record label doesn't wish to do it". malaysia's always had trouble marketing overseas, with the exception of microchips, oil, agricultural products and our kick-ass tourism :P
Siti won't even be caught in public with a short sleeve!! It's a whole different level of prim-n-proper!!
But I do blame it on the record labels lar.. They just need to spend more money fluffing her up.. They probably think that she's not worth the fluff..
