Our PM has lost his confidence?
"I think so. I think so."... WTF???!!!!
That was the quoted reply given by the Prime Minister when asked, over an interview tih BBC's Asia Today, whether he still had the appetite for the job and planned to contest in the next general election. When I read that, all I could think of is that this guy has lost it. I don't think that any sitting PM/President of any country would say "i think so" to a question like that. You either say an unequivocal "Yes/No" or you deflect the question and leave people guessing by giving an answer like "I'll decide when the time comes.". Statements like this make him look lame and in the process, makes our little country look weak.
Our dearest PM is obviously in a crisis. That's probably why he was sent overseas to shore up his 'international image'. He probably needs the confidence building exercise as he's unlikely to get that at home. I actually sympathise with the poor old man though. He had a good start. He inherited a country that was on the rise, and was in good spirits. The country needed a breath of fresh air and gave him an overwhelming majority in the last general election. He managed to recapture Terengganu and almost recaptured Kelantan as well. Basically he kicked butt. But now, a scant 2 years later, he is mired in controversy and has squandered the trust that the rakyat had given him.
I'm sure that if he chooses to run in the next general election, he would definitely retain his seat. The millions that he is pumping into his home state will keep it safe. And his constituents aren't so stupid as to vote out a sitting PM. So, I don't understand why he gave such a lame reply. Seriously, I think that he should fire his PR guy/girl. That person is obviously not good enough for the job. If our dearest PM continue to make lame remarks like these during his confidence building vacation, it's just going to do endless harm to the stability and prosperity of the country. If he no longer has the balls for it, maybe he should retire and let someone else do the job.
