Burns Night Formal at Magdalene
Tonite, I had two more distinguished guests accompany me to formal. The formal was a special one as it was Burns Night, the night to commemorate the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns. So, the theme for the night was Scot. We had scottish food and the Master recited a short Scottish poem after dinner. Lucky guests of mine. I did not specially plan it. My formal nite happened to coincide with Burns Night.
The starter was haggis. I didn't tell WeiShen or Jo what haggis was. I just told them to eat it first. I only told them what it was after they had finished it. The haggis was quite good and they both liked it. Most Malaysians should have no problems consuming internal organs. Ray didn't want his, so I ate his as well. The main course was pheasant. The portions were decently sized and it was cooked quite well. The dessert was a superb mix of Scottish whiskey, oats, and cream, whipped in a nice cup. I had two as well since Jo could not finish hers and WeiShen was already quite full.
Then, we adjourned to the MCR and played some games and chatted until midnite. I learned how to start our MCR fire. It was all quite cool.
The verdict? WeiShen thought that it was quite good. Jo said that it was much better than Queens' formal. She thought that I had meant that Magdalene food was bad when I told her to come to compare and contrast it with Queens' food. I told her that I had actually meant that. However, our new chef has been doing an excellent job in the kitchens. I shall no longer need to start off my formals with a disclaimer anymore. Kudos!
