House of Cards
At times, I feel that our country is like a house of cards. And recently, it seems that it's going to come down soon. Things in the country seem to be unraveling. Our country's top politicians seem to be surviving on nothing but hot air (as all politicians do). The country seems to have stagnated and nothing seems to have changed between the last election and now.
A friend of mine told me earlier today that he wouldn't want to be in the country during the next election (ie, sometime this year) as he thinks that things may go sour. While I do not think the same way, I do feel that this coming election may see some drastic change. The previous overwhelming mandate given by the people to our PM has been abused. Everyone knows that he has not delivered on any of his promises and has only made things worse than before.
I can still remember what someone very wise once told me about our PM. The only reason that he has the image of "Mr Clean" is because he has (1) never been in a position of sufficient power to be anything but, and (2) that he has spent most of his career wining and dining foreign dignitaries and not enough time at home to get up to any mischief. And now that he has been in power for a few years, he has had enough time to "tunjuk belang".
However, as I had written earlier, I do not think that our current opposition parties are any different from the ruling ones either. They have spent so much time trying to fight BN that they have themselves morphed into the very entities that they are trying to fight. I have no doubt that if the opposition come into power, they will be just as corrupt and as full of hot air as the current ruling party.
Racial polarisation will still be a problem. It may even be THE problem that brings down the house of cards along with economic disparity. I do not know who to vote for in the next election and I'm not even sure if I'd want to vote. I like the quote: "be a part of the solution, not the problem". However, I don't know what I can do. This is plain depressing.
