Google Web Toolkit
Wow!! Today is a very good day indeed... Google has announced the FOSS availablity of the Google Web Toolkit [http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/] (GWT)... The GWT is a tool that allows developers to develop web-browser based AJAX applications using Java... This is going to be save me a whole lot of trouble with the next version of aexle...
Good thing too... Since, I've just learned Java over the summer break.. Took me a short time to digest the language... Then, it took me about a week to churn out a useful application that uses OpenGL and OpenAL in Java... I hadn't used OpenGL/AL before this either... I took it as an exercise to learn up Java, 3D graphics and audio...
GWT is also well integrated with eclipse [http://www.eclipse.org]... So, it will be fairly easy to use as well... I expect only polished products from the good people at Google... This is so cool... I can't wait to start writing useful web applications soon... I hadn't jumped into the AJAX bandwagon before this, as there weren't any easy to use toolkits around... YUI [http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/] and Dojo [http://www.dojotoolkit.org/] just didn't really cut it for "easy of use"...
The back end, would still need to be written... However, i'm hoping that the GWT will at least take away a lot of the grind in writing a semi-large application like aexle (which took 6 months to finish, using FPC)...
Good chaps!!
