Digital Photo Post-Processing..
i did a little bit of gimping today... tried some of the gimp tutorials on touching up digital photographs... wow, am i impressed with gimp's ability!! this piece of open-source software is an example of how good things can get... it's practically photoshop!!
i think that i'm gonna do a lot of post-processing from now on... no point keeping pictures around unless they're good... and i think that i'll just post-process the good ones... and junk the rest of the bad ones... i'm too trigger happy with the camera anyway... and my recovery rate is only about 10% anyway...
i've learnt how to do things like vignetting, recontrasting, faking depth of field, and soft touching portraits... the before & after is just fantastic... with these post-processing techniques, and a good camera, i think that i can definitely get some really good pictures... and i'm probably going to get the K100D if a good opportunity comes along...
i don't consider gimping as "cheating"... post-processing is an integral part of photography, whether digital or film... and i think that taking a picture with a camera, is just the first step... it's raw data... post processing, makes it more artistic... however, i'd probably need to get a good book on this at some point...
oh, and how about my research?? i did some work (mainly reading a book) today.. and i'm still going to do some more work... i've got some more ideas about how to approach the problem... this was just a distraction as i try to figure out how to fix one of the problems with my research... or maybe, i have some ADHD... and i need to have distractions from time to time...
i'll only re-touch future photos... there are just too many old photos for me to retouch them all at one go, unless i have nothing else to do for some reason... however, that's quite unlikely.. i've got 5 other projects waiting for me to complete (aside from my phd project)... or maybe, i should learn how to do some gimp scripting and write a script to do it all for me!! hehe..
now, if i can only figure out how to automagically watermark every photo... then, i'm good to go...
