Nice to have friends
seriously.. it's nice to have friends... especially if they're nice friends... i had some friends over for a cookout today... and here are some interesting observations..
1) punctuality
there seems to be a problem with punctuality... i can understand m'sian flexi time... however, this was about the latest we've ever had dinner... i told everyone that we should start eating at 7.30pm... hence, everyone should try to be here before that.. and anyone who needs to cook at my place should come earlier.. we ended up having dinner at 9pm.. and it would have been worse if i didn't take over the cooking of the fried rice.. we might've started at 10pm otherwise.. and this leads me to the next point...
2) girls cannot cook
at least the girls here, generally, cannot cook... but the guys can!! so, during every cookout, the guys will usually cook some nice dishes.. while the girls will usually volunteer to buy dessert/drinks.. this is a generalisation... there are of course exceptions.. i know several girls here who can *really* cook..
during the conversation, it came up that we're quite obsessed with food.. which is quite true... we come from a culture that is centred around food... where the 'ang moh' go to their pubs to drink... we go to mamak to eat and be social... which leads me to the next point..
3) chit-chat
we really like to talk... well, i personally know that i have no problems talking.. i used to have 24hr conversations without much of a problem... however, as a people, most m'sians are quite chatty... it's just the way that we were brought up... we like to keep updated with all the latest gossips and things... no different here... an interesting observation is that, conversation with 'ang moh' is quite superficial... even when you're friends... however, conversation with other m'sians, can actually be quite deep... it probably comes from the fact that we can connect better...
4) the desserts here are nice and affordable
desserts here in the UK are generally nice and affordable... that's a fun thing... i've started to like desserts.. it's amazing how much weight i've put on... since coming to the UK, i've probably put on about 5kg... milk is cheap here... and I LOVE MILK!!!
and i was looking through some of my previous pics.. omg!! i've put on a SUPER amount of weight since i was 17... i should show some of the pics to my friends in the future... i'm sure the difference is about 20kg or so... that's A LOT OF WEIGHT!! maybe i should try to lose some weight... however, what's the point... i'm not obese.. i'm healthy... i wonder what i can do to help me lose some weight... maybe play some badminton?? (since we're not getting ANY rowing done)
how does any of these relate to the topic?? well, it's just nice to have nice friends... people whom i enjoy spending some time with and all that... it's important to have supportive friends, when i'm so far away from home... however, i do know that things will all change when we leave... it's just the way things are.. i just hope that some of us will continue to keep in touch in the future..
almost everyone left at around 1am.. and some of the guys are currently 'camping' in my room... one is on the chair and another two are on the spare mattress... such is student life... hehe... enjoy it while i still can...

Sounds like it went well! Wish I could've been there. But I had a really nice dinner as well, woohoo. Cooked by GURLS, by the way. :)
zen, seeing is believing... and i have not seen yet.
yes.. *some* girls here do know how to cook.. and next time got good food, invite me lar!!
Dan, you can maintain your skepticism if it means I get more to eat. ;)
You don't know the girl who was cooking, Shawn, or I would definitely invite you next time. Would make Michelle cook and invite you all, but Michelle's a busy woman.
Hmm...speaking about girls generally can't cook, that is quite an obvious observation after coming to cambridge. But again, just generally. Well, I hope to camp in Shawn's room too. Haha! I like his bed, SO BIG! But I doubt he will allow me to have that bed.
