Intuitive Engineering
haiz... i can't read... seriously... i cannot read anything remotely
technical... i can read fiction fine.. if a book is any good, i can digest it
in a day... however, i cannot even bring myself to finish a 20 page paper...
i keep reading a few paragraphs, and lose interest.. it isn't that the paper
isn't interesting, nor that the paper isn't about something interesting...
it's neither... it's just that i'm not good at reading technical papers...
i've surmised that this is because i'm an intuitive engineer... i've always
been an intuitive engineer... someone who knows the solution intuitively
rather than through mathematical proof... there is good and bad... the good
is that i would be able to design things that there is no math for... the bad
is that i wouldn't be able to convince anyone that my design would work!!
haha..
however, intuition is what's necessary to do obscure research... simply
because, cutting edge research, by definition, isn't well defined... hence,
there just isn't anyone pointing the way... it's mostly intuition that guides
the researcher... at least my supervisor understands this... and can forgive
the fact that i'm not very good at the math behind my solutions... but is
capable of appreciating my solutions...
then i ask a question... will an intuitive engineer be able to make any money
in the real world?? most real engineering work has no need for intuitive
engineers... there are some jobs for intuitive engineers, but they're few...
so, i guess, unless i'm really really good at intuitive engineering, i'm
screwed.. maybe it's time to dig out the math books and to figure out how to
get things to work... i can do the math, it's just that i don't speak math
very well... like french...
wormholes and hot-potatoes... that's what i'm reading now... and no, it's
neither astro-physics nor thermodynamics.. it's networking architecture... i
need to get at least 1 paper out by the end of the month... if possible, get
2 papers out...

same here! i couldnt be bothered to calculate forces in the cantilever i built.. i just wanted to slap on the fattest beams i could find... i mean, the beam has a whole order of a magnitude more yield stress than the stress i was going to put it through... and doing something that easy cut down on labour costs so much.. haih :P
