AMD + ATI = Happy Family??

ahh... what a morning.. woke up and found out that AMD has just bought ATI..
this is very exciting... imagine the possibilities... the ULTIMATE GAMING RIG
(UGR) for example... and in an unsurprising move, Intel has decided to "not
renew" the ATI chipset license for its FSB... ahhh... some pride/ego there...

imagine the possibility of integrating both a CPU and a GPU together in one..
and i'm not even talking about slapping the two dies together... how about a
radical new x86 architecture that's more akin to the CELL than a standard
CPU??

imagine having an x86 that excels at FPU for HPC work... or imagine a GPU that
has direct access to the shared memory instead of via some PCIe/AGP/PCI
bus... ooooh.. just imagine the possibilities... the AMD+ATI combo could
leave NV+INTEL in the dust for the UGR...

or even slaving the CPU to the GPU (like what's being done in the Xbox360 and
PS3)... how about the possibility of selling a whole "platform" like what
Intel does... from CPU to chipsets... quite cool...

these are interesting times indeed.. would be interesting to see how things
develop over the next 2 years..
