Stone-Cold Mean Bitches

Yes, I had read the article in TheStar on the NEP, but I thought that this was a more interesting article to write about. I've already blogged about the NEP many times. So, I don't think that I will blog about this article on househusbands instead. The article claims that it is not a good idea for men to be stay at home dads while their wives become the main breadwinner.

You would think that in this day and age, things like this shouldn't be a big issue. The problem is that the statistics show that couples where the wife is the main breadwinner and the husband the home carer, are 50% more likely to divorce than otherwise. There is also a 5% increase in these cases over the last 2 years here. Okay, to any normal person, this would seem to be a fairly straight forward issue.

According to the article, the kink is the fact that for these cases, the mother still gets custody of the children and the father is required to pay child support. This is silly, considering that the father had given up his career to provide primary care for his children. Taking the children away from him and passing it over to a career mom, is quite sad enough, without having to ask the dad to find a new job to make alimony payments. That's where the system has got it wrong.

But the worst bit isn't with the article, it's with the reader comments. Most of the female comments seem to indicate that this is some sort of pay-back for the similar kind of treatments that women had been subjected to for centuries. If it was truly pay-back, the men should get custody and the women forced to pay child support, not the other way round. Most of the male comments suggest that it's stupid for any man to ever consider doing anything as ground breaking as being a domestic dad. Men should be given the freedom to choose to do that, if they wish to. All this sounds like feminism being taken too far.

Personally, I do feel that any man who decides to do anything like this, should do it with his eyes wide open. Be informed of the fact that current laws are not on our side. So, take all the necessary steps to protect yourself from the worst case scenarios. Women who enter into such a relationship, should also be ready for the changes that will happen. She will no longer have any protection nor support from her man and will have to learn to deal with the world on her own. Going into such an arrangement without fully understanding the consequences is just asking for trouble.

Also, do not marry a woman who is in love with your status, both current and potential. She has to learn to love you for you, including all your failings. If she is unable to do this, there are so many things that will happen in life to break things up. Failing all this, just stay single! There are plenty of ways to enjoy life in this modern age as a single man. There are many stone-cold bitches in this world.
