Malaysian Prime Minister openly breaking the law?

Disclaimer: First and foremost, I am not a lawyer. Neither am I an expert in any legal matters. Therefore, what I'm about to say in this blog, may be entirely fictional. So, do not believe a single word that you read below.

More evidence that our sitting PM has lost it. The article quotes media articles with quotes from our PM about the current defamation suit of two prominent Malaysian bloggers. Now, I certainly do not understand what the term subjudice meant.

So, looking it up on wikipedia: In law, subjudice, Latin for "under judgment," means that a particular case or matter is currently under trial or being considered by a judge or court. The term may be used synonymously with "the present case" or "the case at bar" by some lawyers. In England and Wales, Australia and Canada it is generally considered inappropriate to publicly comment on cases sub judice and can even be an offence in itself, leading to contempt of court proceedings.

I'm not sure if we have such a law in Malaysia but based on my limited knowledge, our laws are based on British ones. Hence, it won't surprise me in one bit if Malaysian law does handle issues of subjudice. However, I'm not blogging about the legal aspects of the matter, as I'm not a lawyer. I'm blogging about the practical aspects of the matter.

Our dearest PM should seriously fire whomever his PR person is. I'm quite certain that the standard comment when asked by press about any legal proceedings in the country is to say something like: "I do not comment on ongoing legal investigations/proceedings in the country". I'm fairly certain that the government used that line for many previous high profile cases in the country. The simple reason behind it is to be seen as neutral and not influencing proceedings in any way.

So, I do think that our dearest PM has seriously lost it. If he doesn't have a proper PR person, I'd recommend that he hire the best that money can buy. He is doing more damage to his image (international + local) during his confidence building tour. I wonder what would happen if someone actually sues the PM for contempt of court. It would take someone with serious balls to do it. But if someone does do it, I seriously wonder what would happen to UMNO and BN. Would they stick by him or discard him as quickly as convenient in the world of politics? Either way, it doesn't really matter to me.
