Bibles are not Cheap...
All good books are expensive... except maybe for The Good Book... The computer architecture bible that I mentioned earlier, costs more than GBP 50 on amazon... That's rather expensive for a single book, in my opinion... I'll try looking for the book at Galloway & Porter and other online surplus book stores... I'm sure that I can find a cheaper copy...
The current copy that I have with me is from the Moore library... They only have one copy of it, and I've been hogging it since June... It's a really good book... But no one else here seems to be using it... So, that either means that no one else is doing microprocessor architectures here, or they've all got their own copy of the book...
I've read some more of it today, and I've found that, I like not only the material that's presented, but also the way that it's being presented... It presents everything as a convincing argument.. One brick on top of another.. I think that I'll adopt a similar technique for my thesis as well... Long winded narratives don't really work too well for an engineering thesis...
The material presented is quite sparse on details though... So, I would still have to work out a lot of the details myself.. However, it does provide a list of references as a starting point... After reading some 100+ pages of it today, I have some new ideas on how to proceed with my research project...
The problem that I've been facing in my project, is how to bring the data onto the chip and keep it on-chip... a normal cache architecture wouldn't work as the task to be performed is not very temporal/spatial local at a macro level... However, after digesting more of this book, I think that I've got an idea on what else I can try...
Progress at last...
