Emotional Outlet
i need to release... i've not had a good cry for a long time... it's about
time i had one... i can feel one building up for a while now... but it's not
quite there yet... alternatively, i guess i could let it all out on the
piano... maybe i should do that... but i'd have to find something suitable to
play first... life sucks... something that goes along those lines...
what did i play in the past, when i was sad/depressed?? as usual, i'll usually
start with:
1) beethoven's moonlight sonata... it's always a good warm-up piece and will
usually build up some stress/emotion... some people think that the 1st
movement is quite boring.. however, if played properly, it can be extremely
tense... i usually play it at a vivace tempo... sounds like a storm building
up... this piece brings back a whole tonne of memories... which is another
reason why it's a good piece to start with... this piece has been with me
wince i was 13..
2) maybe some of chopin's revolutionary etude.. if the occasion calls for it..
although i've never been able to really play it well... and now, i can hardly
play it at all anymore... so that's out of the question.. my left hand just
can't move as fast as it used to be able to... that's what not practicing for
years can do to you... a couple of years ago, it could still move fast
enough.. but it would not have the stamina to last the whole piece.. now,
it's just hopeless... can't even do a decent intro now...
3) some debussy... arabesque, or even (what's the other one i used to play),
ahh... clair de lune.. oooh i can actually understand that now!! (my french
has been steadily improving)... that's usually a good piece to let it all
out... sad impressionist piece that it is... everytime i play it, it sounds
different... which is the way it should... it's one of those pieces that have
a huge sad but high peak...
4) and then, i usually follow it by some popular pieces... if i were to do it
now, it'd probably be "tong hua" by michael wong... it's another sad piece...
although, the MTV looks sadder than the song actually is... from the music,
it's not as sad, the lyrics convey a little sadness, but the MTV does it...
